Ariel Stern, PhD
Ariel Stern is an Associate Professor at Harvard Business School researching the regulation, strategy, and economics of health care, with a focus on the medical device and pharmaceutical industries.
Ariel has been working with the Harvard-MIT Center for Regulatory Science since its founding. She is passionate about multi-disciplinary solutions to the biggest challenges in 21st century regulatory science and enjoys collaborating with colleagues from across the Harvard and MIT campuses. Notable recent publications include:
- “The Impact of Price Regulation on the Availability of New Drugs in Germany.” This study summarizes the introduction of Germany’s comparative assessment-based drug price regulations in 2011.
- “Challenges and Opportunities in Software-Driven Medical Devices.” This article describes the new regulatory and managerial challenges and opportunities associated with digital medical technology.
- “How Artificial Intelligence is Changing Health Care Delivery.” This piece summarizes the ways in which smart algorithms hold great promise for making health care delivery more accurate, efficient, and accessible and discusses the practical challenges that remain for incorporating AI into clinical and administrative settings.
